The Bride's Heroine's Journey

For centuries, the hero’s journey has been the story we all live by but it was never written for us (women).

Joseph Campbell gave us the Hero’s Journey, a roadmap for every epic adventure. But when asked what the woman’s version of that journey might look like, he said she didn’t need one “she is the place people are trying to get to.” By people he meant men.

And so began centuries of stories where women were the goal, not the guide. The object, not the author.

But what happens when women pick up the pen? When we refuse to be the destination and start being the traveler?

That’s the heartbeat of the Paper & Prose Society where I’m using prose and paper, through art journaling, to retell the stories of the women who were written into the margins.

We’re just wrapping up the Bride of Frankenstein’s story as if she didn’t die, she found her purpose and voice. And in the end was not only the survivor but the savior.

Next up in November-December is Mrs. Claus. Ask yourself, why does she not have a name? And isn’t it about time we gave her one and told her story?
